Since graduating the Joint Master’s Program “Geography of Environmental Risk and Human Security” at United Nations University (UNU) and Bonn University (Germany), Mia Wannewitz is working as a research associate for the “Vulnerability Assessment, Risk Management and Adaptive Planning Section” (VARMAP) at the Institute for Environment and Human Security at UNU. Having a strong interest in disaster risk management in urban areas regarding natural hazards, she is currently involved in two different research projects. While one is concerned with assessing the impact of increasing heat stress in urban areas on city populations, the other focusses on critical infrastructure disruptions and to what extent the German population is prepared for them. Other thematic areas of expertise are related to natural hazard risk in Southeast Asia, including its assessment with the help of composite indicators.
